Fishing for Children with Special Needs (2025-2026, 2024-2025, 2023-2024)
We Can Fish is a nonprofit organization that provides free, inclusive fishing experiences for children with disabilities and their families. Our events offer a day of guided fishing, meals, transportation, and recreational activities, creating a supportive environment for families to bond, relax, and build lasting memories. By serving over 7,400 children with disabilities across Riverside and San Bernardino Counties, we address the critical need for accessible, family-centered outdoor experiences that promote mental wellness and social connection. We are deeply grateful for the generous, continued support of The Anderson Children’s Foundation—thanks in large part to their partnership, we are able to carry out our mission of teaching every child with disabilities how to fish.
Our First Fishing Experience 2.0 (2022-2023)
The grant from Anderson's Children Foundation will allow us to take 40 special needs children and their families fishing on boats in Big Bear. Transportation for those who need it will be provided by the ACF from Indio. In addition, the grant provides us the opportunity to pair up with the national organization “Cast for Kids” to help us promote this event. It also ensures each participant will receive a hat, fishing pole, shirt, and tackle box. Receiving this grant also sets us up to be able to hold events at Lake Cahuilla and Lake Skinner during the year. We Can Fish strives to alleviate some of the responsibilities that are required when taking care of children with special needs, and just let the family have fun fishing and playing together in a totally different environment. The funds from ACF allows us to make that happen.
Our First Fishing Experience (2020-2021)
We Can Fish, Inc. organizes fishing trips for children and adults who might not otherwise have an opportunity to experience the joy of fishing, the beauty of nature and the pleasure of being on the water. We serve the disadvantaged and those with special needs, including the physically challenged, at-risk youth, and veterans with disabilities.
The Anderson Grant will allow us to work with, “Cast for Kids” to take 40 children on a fishing adventure of a life time. We will take the children and one chaperone to Big Bear Lake and they will be offered the experience of fishing on a boat. They will also receive lunch, t-shirts, and a fishing pole.
