Athletic Improvement Program (2025-2026)
West Shores is one of the smallest schools in the Coachella Valley School district, but it has the biggest heart. They show it through sports, especially soccer. Our students play it every chance they can get. Whether during PE, at lunch or after school, it is a constant fixture at West Shores. Due to this, our goals take a beating; with the constant use and extreme temperatures they fall into disrepair quickly. The Anderson Foundation has graciously donated the money to acquire two sets of goals, one set for everyday use, and one specifically for games.
In addition to soccer, West Shore students are always looking to try something new and expand their horizons. This year 14 students started the West Shores golf team. The distance to golf courses and places to practice is difficult. The Anderson Foundation is helping support our golf team with a new practice enclosure. It will be equipped with a launch monitor and tracking screen to accurately measure the players hits and help adjust their swing.
Instruments for Growing Band (2024-2025)
My grant application was for instruments and repairs. We have such a new program but it is growing so fast. This year will be the highest number of students in the music program in 5 years. With the program growing so fast we are in need of instruments to keep up with the growth. This grant money will go towards purchasing instruments specifically for my new incoming 8th graders into the music program. Additionally, the money will be used for repairs for instruments. I have been at my school for 5 years and we have never been able to repair all the instruments needed to have a successful program, especially with funds being cut yearly. Having these instruments repaired will allow me to offer more options for my students and to keep up with rising growth of the students in the program
Elective Wheel (2013-2014)
West Shores High School’s STEAMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Music and Math) program helps middle school students explore new interests and potential career paths. Since West Shores is a relatively small school, this program is essential for helping students participate in electives at a rate equal to that in larger high schools. Each student moves through an elective wheel, allowing them to take classes in each of these areas. Many classes, including Robotics, Science, and Art, take talented students on special field trips where they can showcase their work. Many students involved in the STEAMM program continue with their activities through high school and beyond, continuing to grow and delight in their passions.
